Reminder: Important Meeting this THURSDAY
TUESDAY: Moffat/Gross Public Hearing w/ Boulder County Commissioners and Grand County
TEG – The Environmental Group – Actively Dealing with current and future environmental issues that affect our community.Moffat/Gross Public Hearing w/ Boulder County Commissioners and Grand County This Tuesday (Aug 26) at 3:15pm – Boulder County Courthousersvp-on-facebookCan you join us on Tuesday (August 26th) at 3:15pm at the Boulder County Commissioners’ Hearing Room (3rd floor of the Boulder County Courthouse) where Grand County Commissioners will present comments to our Boulder County Commissioners regarding the Final Environmental Impact Statement for Denver Water’s proposed Gross expansion? In June TEG submitted extensive comments to the Army Corps criticizing their Final Environmental Impact Statement for Moffat/Gross. Just a week later, Boulder County held a public hearing to gather input for an addendum to their comments. Now, Grand County – who currently are pushing in favor of the project – will be presenting their perspective to Boulder County. No public testimony will be taken at this hearing, but it’s important that we have a fair number of people fill the seats so as to illustrate the contentious nature of this project here in Boulder County (it would be the largest construction project in all of Boulder County history, all without any benefit whatsoever to the County). If you’ve been following this issue but are too shy to ever take the mic speak for 3 minutes, Tuesday is a great time for you to show your concern simply by being present.Let’s bring the support to our Boulder County Commissioners that they deserve for taking this issue, and our citizen concerns surrounding it, seriously. See you there!Copyright © 2012 The Environmental Group (TEG) of Colorado ~ All Rights Reserved.

SOME TIPS for your 3 minutes tomorrow at Boulder County’s Public Hearing on Gross/Moffat
TOMORROW at 4:30pm:Boulder County Public Hearing onGross Dam / Moffat ExpansionEven if you don’t plan to speak, we need you there so you can donate your minutes to someone else!poster-june16-gross-hearing-Newsletter-SIZEWe’ve posted a list of theTOP TEN FATAL FLAWS WITH MOFFAT/GROSSon the TEG website, take a look! These 10 talking points in combination with your own experience and perspective (and, perhaps, a reading of TEG’s FEIS Comment Letter) should well equip you for making a compelling speech! Please remember that this is an “Informational” public hearing in which we are bringing our citizen research and perspective to the County Commissioners so that they may submit that commentary to the Army Corps (the federal permitting agency for this project). This is not a public hearing in which we need to focus on Boulder County’s 1041 authority. Rather, our time at the podium will be best used in sticking to criticism of the recently released Final Environmental Impact Statement. The Boulder County Commissions submitted a scathing Comment Letter to the Army Corps of Engineers in response to the Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Moffat/Gross Project. The well-researched and highly-critical letter was penned by Boulder County Attorney Conrad Lattes. That letter is available to read by clicking here. The meeting will be held on the third floor of the:Boulder County Courthouse1325 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO. (Right in the middle of the Pearl Street walking mall). Want to speak for more than three minutes yourself? (You can be gifted up to 10 minutes, total). Be sure to arrive early and chat with us at the front desk – we’ll help you get minutes donated to your time.Tomorrow, Boulder County needs to hear from us! The commissioners need to hear our substantive comments so that they can submit them to the record as official Boulder County concerns – and they need for a lot of us to be there to illustrate just how concerned we are about this proposed project. If you have substantive comment for Boulder County, but are unable to be present at Monday’s public hearing, you can email the County Commissioners’ office at commissioners@bouldercounty.org – be sure to include “Moffat” or “Gross” in the subject line of your email. Hope to see you there tomorrow at 4:30pm! Respectfully,Chris GarrePresident, TEGtegcolorado.org
PLEASE ATTEND: Monday, 4:30: Boulder County Public Hearing on Gross/Moffat
This Coming Monday at 4:30pm:Boulder County Public Hearing onGross Dam / Moffat Expansionposter-june16-gross-hearing-Newsletter-SIZEMake your voice heard on what would be the largest construction project in Boulder County History! You can sign up at the door to speak for three minutes or donate your three minutes to someone else who needs them. The meeting will be held on the third floor of the:Boulder County Courthouse1325 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO. (Right in the middle of the Pearl Street walking mall). Want to speak for more than three minutes yourself? (You can be gifted up to 10 minutes, total). Be sure to arrive early and chat with us at the front desk – we’ll help you get minutes donated to your time. Boulder County’s request for extension of the 45-day comment period was denied, as was an extension request made by the City of Boulder and, of course, by TEG and over 500 of us who signed on via tegcolorado.org. Even Senator Bennet’s request for extension was denied! (see his letter here) (see the Army Corps’ response here) It is crucial that we show up in numbers to Monday’s Boulder County hearing and present strong arguments against Denver Water’s out-dated, environmentally destructive proposal to drain the Fraser River into an enlarged Gross Reservoir. Boulder County maintains 1041 authority – meaning that Denver Water is required to get a 1041 Construction Permit from Boulder County before the project can be constructed. Let’s make sure we continue to assert our support for Boulder County denying Denver Water that permit. The Boulder County Commissioners are among the only elected officials, state-wide, who wisely chose to wait for the release of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), rather than prematurely sign an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Denver Water, in order to best consider the real impacts of the proposed project. But, as Boulder County’s Comment Letter plainly states, even with this FEIS now released, the real impacts are still unknown:As it currently stands, the FEIS does not provide an adequate description of the project because it does not describe what its design will be, how it will be constructed, or what impact its construction will have upon the environment and the surrounding community. There is no description of the construction plans for the dam, how it will be constructed, what volumes of various construction materials will be used, where those materials will be sourced, what transportation routes will be used for what purposes, what the quarry size on site will be, or how trees will be removed and disposed of. Depending on the answers to these questions, the environmental impacts to Boulder County and its citizens will be very different. On Monday, Boulder County needs to hear from us!
