TEG has secure grant funding offered as a “Special Release” from the Colorado Water Conservation Board as part of the Colorado Watershed Restoration Program. Coal Creek along state highway 72 has never had a community-based watershed master plan such as the one that will be created with these grant funds. The Coal Creek Canyon Watershed Master Plan will provide a framework for mitigating damage from the recent flooding and assistance in protecting the area from such extreme damage in future flood events.
The goal of the Coal Creek Canyon Watershed Master Plan is to:
- Conduct public outreach and scoping of local stakeholders including landowners, businesses, county and town governments, agencies including CDOT and County Road and Bridge Departments, and local utilities,
- And develop a long-term master plan for stream and riparian restoration and resiliency that is directed by the community and the stakeholders of Coal Creek Canyon, including both short term (2014) and longer term (2015-2018) measures.
A Request For Proposals has been released and is available for download here. The deadline for submission is 5pm, Monday, March 24th.
