Be There: Monday, January 7th, 5pmBoulder County Commissioners Public Hearing on Gross Dam Expansion
Monday, Jan 7th at 5pm: Boulder County Public Hearing on Gross Dam Expansion
Last month, when Boulder County announced it would have a public hearing on the proposed Gross Dam Expansion on December 20th, just 4 days before Christmas, we kicked into action and over 120 of us sent in letters requesting the meeting be postponed until after the holidays. Our community action pressured the Commissioners to schedule two dates for the hearing – December 20th and January 7th – with public comment to be taken at both.
We succeeded in pressuring the Commissioners to take this issue seriously. On December 20th, roughly 75 of us showed up and many great speeches were made.(The entire December 20th hearing can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_8ouIJ1sF8 )
We need to show up in numbers once again on January 7th at 5pm at the Boulder County Courthouse.
*** Why You Should Care about Denver Water’s Dirty Dealings ***
Denver Water, the second biggest water utility in the country is trying to bully Boulder County into selling out its own citizens. This is all in the name of more green lawns in the Denver area… and water for back-door fracking agreements.
Denver Water was hoping that the county would settle for a “cents on the dollar” sellout by rushing an agreement through during the holidays.
But we, at TEG, through our “Citizens for Sustainable Water Management” project group, caught wind of this dirty deal and mounted coordinated significant citizen opposition to the hastily arranged December 20the hearing.
We showed the Boulder County Commissioners and Denver Water that we are not asleep at the wheel. 75 of us showed up and made some heart stirring and hard hitting speeches. You can see it all here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_8ouIJ1sF8
An additional 120 of you set emails.
This sure got the Commissioners attention!
*** Here’s How You Can Help Now ***
On January 7, at 5pm, we need to demonstrate, en masse, to the Boulder County Commissioners that we the people are not pawns in Denver Water’s greed grab.
With our voices and numbers, we can show the Boulder County Commissioners that their loyalty is to us, the citizens of this great county – not to Denver Water.
If you are not inspired to speak yourself, you can “donate” your 3 minutes to somebody that is more than happy to give the commissioners a peace of their mind. Think of this as providing more ammo to the voices of democracy. So, every “body” really does count!
Boulder County DOES have the power to stop the expansion of Gross Dam dead in its tracks – but only if you provide them with the backbone to stand up to Denver Water by showing up.
Bring yourself and your friends and neighbors 5 p.m. this Monday, January 7th on the 3rd floor hearing room of the Boulder County Courthouse on the Pearl Street Walking Mall ( 1325 Pearl St.).
