Worrysome first: The Colorado General Assembly is poised to pass new legislation (SB41) that would change our water laws to allow for storage dams (like Gross Reservoir) without proving actual need for the water (as is currently required) — the vote is expected to happen on Monday. TAKE ACTION NOW (it requires only 15 seconds):Click Here to send an email to your state representative TODAY and urge him or her to vote NO ON SB41.
Now the Great News! Due, in large part, to our big success on January 7th when we managed to convince the Boulder County Commissioners to turn down an offer made by Denver Water which would have OK’d the Moffat project (expansion of Gross Reservoir), the Army Corps of Engineers has postponed the final EIS for at least another year. This coming Thursday, March 14th, is “International Day of Action for Rivers”. To celebrate our recent successes and help spread the word about grassroots river actions around the world, we are hosting a Rocky Mountain River Celebration at the Coal Creek Canyon Community Center (just west of Denver). The event is free to the public so bring friends to the party! We will showcase several short films and multiple speakers and will conclude with the Colorado Premiere of Streams of Consequence, a 27 minute film presented by Patagonia, Inc.
Yoga instructor Cariann Brown will lead a river-themed “Paddle Yoga” class at 6pm (donations encouraged) and then the Rocky Mountain River Celebration will commence at 7pm.
